We adults who are fighting to save our Planet Earth from the worst effects of climate change are want to say it’s for our kids and grandkids that we do this. While we are already experiencing the beginning consequences of a warmer climate, it is the next generations that will feel the worst impacts. If I live another 20 or 30 years at least I will not have to say to my grandkids that I sat back and let the planet get destroyed when they ask, “Grandpa, what in the hell were you thinking back then???”
I wish we were going to be able to say that we saw the problem coming and at the first signs of trouble we took all the steps imaginable to rectify the disaster we could easily predict from the mounting scientific data. Obviously, this will not be the case especially now that we’ve elected a federal government that is doing all it can to eviscerate any federal efforts to support the science and take all necessary steps possible to rectify this catastrophe.
Thus, since we adults can’t seem to get the job done the kids are taking matters into their own hands. The second lawsuit by children has now been filed to force the government through the courts to take action…
“Lawyers for the Clean Air Council and Pennsylvania children argue that the government has violated the due process clause of the Constitution, as well as the public trust doctrine. According to the suit, the government has a duty to ensure that natural resources are protected for the public.”
“The lawsuit is similar to suits filed by Our Children’s Trust claiming the government has violated constitutional rights by causing and enhancing climate change risks.”
“”We will not stand idly by while President Trump and his agencies raze crucial environmental protections, ignore climate science, dispute well-documented facts and force future generations of Americans to suffer the consequences of this administration’s reckless choices and ignorant policies,””
Greens, 2 Children Sue Over Trump Rollbacks
Environmentalists and two Pennsylvania children sued the federal government today over the Trump administration’s rollbacks of climate change rules and policies.
Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the lawsuit alleges the government has known for more than 50 years about the dangers of climate change and has deliberately put citizens in harm’s way.
President Trump’s rollbacks of Obama-era climate change policies “increase the clear and present dangers of climate change,” the 62-page complaint says.
“The government is relying on junk science to wage a war on facts, data and reliable principles and methods arising out of scientific, technical and specialized knowledge,” it says.
The law firm Hausfeld filed the suit pro bono on behalf of the Clean Air Council and the two children — a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old — who it says have been directly affected by climate change.
According to the suit, global warming has exacerbated the younger child’s severe seasonal allergies, while the 11-year-old child suffers from asthma and has been upset by news stories related to climate change.
“We will not stand idly by while President Trump and his agencies raze crucial environmental protections, ignore climate science, dispute well-documented facts and force future generations of Americans to suffer the consequences of this administration’s reckless choices and ignorant policies,” said Joseph Minott, executive director and chief counsel of the Clean Air Council.
The lawsuit is similar to suits filed by Our Children’s Trust claiming the government has violated constitutional rights by causing and enhancing climate change risks.
Lawyers for the Clean Air Council and Pennsylvania children argue that the government has violated the due process clause of the Constitution, as well as the public trust doctrine. According to the suit, the government has a duty to ensure that natural resources are protected for the public.
The lawsuit names Trump, the U.S. government, the Energy Department and U.S. EPA as defendants.
